In early 2020, CWD was chosen by GIZ as the top qualified HSE training provider in the region to conduct a high-level occupational health and safety (OHS) training project. This prestigious selection underscored our expertise and commitment to excellence in promoting workplace safety.

Our journey began with a crucial preparatory phase. A week before the official start, our consultants met with the project’s responsible person to discuss training requirements, appropriate delivery methods, and project arrangements. This initial meeting set the stage for a successful collaboration, ensuring that all stakeholders were aligned and ready to achieve the project’s objectives.

The project kicked off in Khartoum, where our team developed a detailed training agenda, outline, and curricula, including all necessary training materials and handouts. This foundational work was completed over two days, laying the groundwork for the subsequent training sessions.

Next, we focused on creating a short (1-2 days) HSE training curriculum that could be used by the trained participants to conduct their own sessions. This step was crucial in empowering participants to disseminate their newly acquired knowledge within their respective teams, fostering a culture of safety throughout the organization.

The heart of the project was a 10-day in-class Training of Trainers (ToT) program held in Nyala. Participants underwent intensive training, gaining the skills and knowledge needed to implement effective OHS systems. Our trainers covered a wide range of topics, from hazard assessment and emergency response to accident investigation and reporting. The interactive sessions were designed to be engaging and practical, ensuring that participants could apply what they learned in real-world scenarios.

Midway through the project, we prepared a comprehensive mid-term report, documenting progress and identifying areas for improvement. This report was a valuable tool for both CWD and GIZ, providing insights that informed the remaining phases of the project.

Following the in-class training, we provided remote post-training support to the participants, ensuring they had the guidance needed to implement their new skills effectively. This support was crucial in maintaining momentum and addressing any challenges that arose.

To further reinforce the training, we conducted a three-day follow-up workshop in Nyala. This session allowed participants to share their experiences, ask questions, and upgrade their technical and didactical skills. The collaborative environment fostered a sense of community and continuous learning among the participants.

Finally, we prepared a detailed final report, summarizing the project’s outcomes and providing recommendations for future initiatives. This report highlighted the success of the training program and the positive impact it had on GIZ’s OHS practices.

Through this project, CWD demonstrated its commitment to enhancing workplace safety and empowering organizations to implement effective HSE systems.
